Objectives

  • Strengthen SULi’s operational effectiveness to uphold its role as a trusted, credible source of evidence-based information.
  • Foster increased representation from the Global South within SULi, bringing diverse perspectives to global conservation policy.
  • Expand and share a robust evidence base to advocate for sustainable use as essential for both conservation and livelihoods.

Results/Impact

  1. There will be a stronger and more scientifically robust (and therefore harder to refute) evidence base on the contribution of sustainable use to conservation and livelihoods, with a more balanced representation regionally, taxonomically and across practices of use;
  2. The evidence base will be used to drive more prominent, more targeted strategic communications, and will be accessed more easily through the Sustainable Use of Species Database, both globally and also through new regional SULi sub-groups, giving higher visibility to regional priorities and regional voices;
  3. Proponents of anti-use rhetoric will be less effective in garnering support through dissemination of misinformation and misleading campaigns.
